Alec J. Beck is a shareholder in Seaton, Beck & Peters, P.A. He has more than a decade of experience advising and representing employers, and regularly represents employers in proceedings before both state and federal courts, the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, as well as various other agencies.
Since his graduation from law school, Mr. Beck has practiced exclusively in the areas of labor relations, employment law, and workers’ compensation. He is considered an expert in the interplay of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and Workers’ Compensation law. Mr. Beck also provides ongoing counsel and training for employers regarding human resource management, employee relations strategies, and the avoidance of employment-related disputes and liability.
Mr. Beck received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in 1986, and his law degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in 1989. While in law school, Mr. Beck was Executive Editor of the school’s Law Review. Since that time, he has represented management in several successful and high-profile employment cases, including the 1993 constitutional challenge to the Minnesota Striker Replacement Ban and the 1999 constitutional challenge to portions of the Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board statute. He has first-chair trial experience in both the state and federal courts, the National Labor Relations Board, the United States Department of Labor and the Minnesota Office of Administrative Hearings. Mr. Beck also has experience in the legislative area, and has lobbied and advocated on behalf of employers at both the state and federal levels.
Mr. Beck is a frequent lecturer on labor and employment matters at seminars, training conferences, and continuing legal education seminars. He is a former Chair of the Minnesota Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section, and was a contributing author to the Section’s Newsletter for five years. In 1999 and 2000 Mr. Beck was chosen one of Minnesota’s “Rising Stars” in the legal field by Law & Politics Magazine, and in 2003 he was chosen as a “Super Lawyer,” representing the top 5% of attorneys in Minnesota. Mr. Beck was also an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law from 1993 through 1996, where he taught in the Legal Writing program. He is active in local, state and national politics, and has experience running political campaigns and organizing party organizations at the local and state level. |
